PREPARE FOR HAIR LOSS CONSULTATION

 

INITIAL VISIT

IN AN EFFORT TO MAXIMIZE YOUR INITIAL HAIR LOSS VISIT - PLEASE SEE BELOW

  • ​

  • Give a good history: Although most hair loss doctors can diagnose many hair loss conditions upon examination; a detailed history can help us to differentiate more complicated condition. 

    • History of the hair loss (including when it started, how its gotten worse, associated life events or grooming practices), family history of hair loss, previous and current hairstyles, previous diagnoses and treatments (including hair transplants, platelet-rich plasma, scalp injections, light therapy, and medications) and by other doctors, and any over the counter/ natural remedies

  • Provide old pictures of hair when the hair was more "normal" if available

  • Provide (images or bring in to the office) all medications, especially any current hair loss medications and vitamins

  • Provide (images or bring to the office) all current hair grooming products

  • Provide (fax prior to visit and/ or bring to the office) previous clinical exam notes, blood work, and scalp biopsies if available

  • Wash your hair 48 hours prior to your visit.

  • Come to visit with hair loose and in its "natural state":

    • Please remove any hair attachments (braids, weaves, glue, attached wigs), hair updo's, hair camouflage, hair products (hair scalp oils/ hair fibers) at least 48 hours prior to your visit.

    • If you have locs, please wear them down and out.

    • Please come in with hair fully detangled and stretched if possible 

    • Please avoid putting HEAVY products in the hair and scalp including oils on the day of your visit so we can evaluate your scalp and hair.

      • ​You can put a light leave-in conditioner on the hair shaft to keep it moisturized
  • Remove (or be prepared to remove) any eyebrow or face makeup.

  • Please arrive with your hair parted in two sections DOWN THE MIDDLE

PLEASE NOTE, IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE,  WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EVALUATE YOUR HAIR/ SCALP AND WE WILL HAVE TO RESCHEDULE YOUR VISIT. WE WILL ALSO BE UNABLE TO WAIT FOR ANY PATIENT TO TAKE THEIR HAIR OUT DURING THE TIME OF THE VISIT! PLEASE NOTE, A $350 RESCHEDULING FEE WILL APPLY TO PATIENTS ARRIVING WITH THE HAIR/ SCALP NOT READY TO BE FULLY EXAMINED

FOLLOW-UP VISIT

  • Bring a list of your medications

  • Bring a list of your hair products

  • Bring a list of any vitamins/ supplements 

  • Report any changes in general, mental, or GYN health 

  • Report effects of medications/ interventions on the progress of your hair loss

  • Report side effects of the medications

  • Wash your hair 48 hours prior to your visit.

  • Come to visit with hair loose and in its "natural state":
